The Bittersweet Fact of Life
It's a bittersweet fact of life we faceTo see a loved one looking that way,
That piercing blank stare, energy O so weak
To feel their spirit is slipping away.
Slipping away from their days on earth
Getting ready for that time to leave,
The only way I hold on during this time
Is knowing that you believe.
You've lived your life fully loving the Lord
I really shouldn't be so sad,
To know you're going to be with the Lord
Are the thoughts that make me glad.
As I feel your spirit slowly fading away
I remember all the times in my life,
How you never ever took your eyes off the Lord
No matter what the pain or strife.
You taught me we can talk to God anytime
Wherever you wish to pray,
Your giving heart showed God's love through you
Even when you had nothing to say.
It's a bittersweet fact of life we face
And something we will all go through,
That's why making things right with the Lord
Is the most important thing you MUST do.
So mom, as I tearfully write this poem
I know that you don't have long,
I still feel love in your piercing blank stare
In the Lord's hands you now belong.
