Reflections on the Time We Lost
Though the time we spent
The words were not said
They were locked in our hearts
Cause I think we were afraid.
Afraid to share just what we felt
Cause of all that time apart,
Confused that after all that time
We still felt love in our heart.
Love tainted by the thoughts of the past
There were not in your control.
I'm glad I got to know you, dad
Over time as I grew old.
For in the end, it matters not
What darkness our memories cast,
What matters now is what we have
Our unspoken love will last.
Though illness came to bring you down
You held on to the end,
Somehow you knew you had one more step
And He became your friend.
You came to know our Father above
Whose love does conquer all,
And now you've gone to a better place
Where again you will walk tall.
