About Original Poetry

About Original Poetry

An online community where you can write poetry, learn from other poets and share your creative writing with the world.

Summary

Original Poetry is a social networking website, with a poetry theme, designed to help poets network and exchange poetry. All poetry submitted is original, and not a re-publication of existing poetry.

When it was found that there was no true way for all poets to network, socialize, and exchange their poetry, Original Poetry was founded. Other similar web sites were lacking in the respect that they did not offer you a true networking and exchange experience, and being able to participate proved to be a heavy financial burden, or caused the whole purpose of critiquing to be watered down and deemed meaningless.

One of Original Poetry's main drives is the promotion of poetry. The community was first started to bring together poets in a manner that they could easily connect and interact with other poets.

The Community

The Original Poetry community is a diverse community with members from all around the world. People of all ages, races, and cultures have helped create and shape a very diversified network of poetry. Within the community, many special interest poetry groups have formed. These groups have focused on writing better poetry, writing for the environment, becoming a professional poet, and helping to spread poetry to everyone.

Promotion Of Poetry

One of Original Poetry's main drives is the promotion of poetry. The community was first started to bring together poets in a manner that they could easily connect and interact with other poets. With no other networking options available for truly connecting with other like-minded poets, a group brought together an idea of building a social networking platform that would help bring poets together.

With the launch of this network, expectations were exceeded, and the seeding of new poets was introduced. Not only were established and aspiring poets connected, but a crop of new, and sometimes young, poets emerged. People began writing, and posting their work. Groups formed, and people began seeking out ways they could improve their writing.

This has helped aspiring poets grow, and improve their poetry. Many poets have converted their work into published books, posters, and other products featuring poetry. With a growing community, and a strong foundation, Original Poetry has filled a void in the poetry community.

With over 100,000 poems submitted as of July 2009, and thousands every month being submitted, Original Poetry has become the ultimate reading room for poetry.

Large Library of Poetry

Original Poetry has quickly become one of the larges collections of poetry assembled. It has been referred to as the Library of Congress for poetry, and is arguably the most diverse collection of poems ever assembled. With over 75,000 poems submitted as of July 2009, and thousands every month being submitted, Original Poetry has become the ultimate reading room for poetry.

Published Work

With the rise of vanity and self publishing outlets, Original Poetry is working hard to fill a hole of getting good poetry published. We have already begun talking to publishers, and have looked into ways that we can help get poetry published for our members. Along with collaboration from other published poets, Original Poetry is also trying to bring a new crop of poets to the world.

Original Poetry is also in the process of publishing its first book. Nearing the completion of a year long contest, Original Poetry is compiling 52 of the best poems. These poems are written by already published members, and first time published members.Announcement of the first book will come in the fall of 2009.
