Sucking Lemons
Sucking lemons
clothed in hostilities
blind eyes never see
when settling
for less than perfect
And I have my reasons
which you never quite fathom
while you project people on me
creating a canyon wide chasm
Not up to walking on air
so how does it feel
breathing deeply
all that poisonous atmosphere?
Thumbing through old family photos
wondering where the innocence truly goes
is it all just left to burn
after the years have soiled and turned?
Spoiled and sour
growing blacker by the hour
never to be disarmed
by any strangers charms
Lost in synthetic music
living a lifetime through film
life is there if one chooses it
otherwise, join a billion other empty souls
Every face tells a story
a fine wrinkle is faded hope
thought life would be over by forty
youthful indiscretions
only seem to tighten the rope
No, don't have a problem with coping
but I'm on shaky ground
with a concept known as 'hope'
smashing that half empty glass theory
swallowing reality down this throat
Now everybody who reads this
assumes only the worst,
but I truly hunger for knowledge
to satiate this growing thirst
