Pets
Sometimes ignorant people
know no bounds
despite a lack of intelligence
they make their rounds
Getting their little hands
into anything they can manage
Never mind the implications
or the pathetic damage
What a cute little household pet
hearing its cries
as it becomes soaking wet
Left chained in the rain again
I don't suppose
this grievous act
renders me incapable of feeling,
nor am I too conditioned to react
There is not enough love
on this sorry planet
with its manmade catastrophes
Islands of glass, steel and granite
Did you get this animal
as a sign of prestige?
Or as an unexpected present
from some ladies benevolent society?
As the rain sheeted down
against the doors and windows,
an abandoned mournful cry
rattled the depths of my insides
I actually mumbled a prayer
in the hopes somebody was listening Up There
to stop this storm
at least until the fool owner gets home
An SUV finally returned
I hope this neighborhood fool learns
She is now being watched
for animal cruelty concerns
Certainly she wouldn't leave
an infant child
chained to a tree
Never mind a 4 month old puppy
If she can't see the connection
She has lost her fleeting humanity
A capitalist, consumer bitch
who needs psychiatric therapy
