Making The Best of It
Outside this window
icicles hang down
like poised teeth,
just out of reach
So how can someone
not be moved by these words?
An original thought has occurred
a shaky idea
has been written down
Burn down the house
strewn their belongings
throughout the backyard
dance recklessly
around an unlit fire pit
Gaze upon frolicking baby deer
hiding in the brush
mad with hunger
as yet another
housing project
erases its home
Cannot lap at the stream
ripe with toxins
and mutated crayfish
with deformed claws
sick of it all,
this concept known as 'green'
garbage still lines these streets
Lost to this family
tough love is a no sell
confrontations at this point
are hopelessly pointless
Knowing where I stand
on the soil
countless others
have trodden before,
made their mistakes
crying out for more
Seeking solace
on a solitary bed
around the clock
nocturnal slumbering
All these passing days
never ending tragedies
making the best of it
with a smile,
and disarming
with an optimistic streak
