Blanket of Woe
Watching this cell phone
out of the corner of his eyes
set to vibrate
the moment they might decide to call,
if at all
there is drama in this life
so pathetic and thick
you could carve it up with a knife
trying to find the humor
in practically anything at all
maybe in dusty old books
someone’s rather thin words
written more than a century ago
dead to this modern world
another weekend night
locked behind these doors
all because some puissant
can't find any common ground
such a lowly sister
how the mighty have subtly fallen
lost in a world of constriction
her love life complete fiction
family life dried up and discarded
trying to find some solace
in an abandoned garden
begging to be buried
and ultimately forgotten
beneath a suffocating blanket of woe
