Dolphins At Sunset
With careful selection, my son collects exotic seashells
Many round slender rocks, and a rare shark’s tooth.
His pants are rolled and pulled above the knees
While wading California’s cool high Winter's tide.
My wife tugs her jacket tight around her collar
Against the salty Northern ocean breeze.
Above Zuma clouds burst with sunbeams,
Accentuating her smooth angelic visage.
Mirrored in her eyes cloud-stream view,
Blazes the spectrum's heavenly hues .
My daughter’s splendid layered sandcastles mote
Fills with the seas slow evening tumble and wash.
She lets out a little cry, a gasp of surprise.
Then her soft blond hair is swept up, to dry her eyes.
Just as my family and I draw down this outing’s stay
Air shoots out a spout as a splash emerges from a wave.
Straight sun-ward a fin emerges forth, as if "Hello" it states.
We watch in wonder dolphins at sunset
Until the close out of this day.
