A Light Went Out
Staring onward into the dark Summer sky
I catch a pink quartz Sun blasting,
A quasar burst that shimmers on high.
A luminous spark that blazed bright
In the upper stratosphere,
Its final feat, almost imperceptible
To the naked human eye.
Just as swiftly it fades from twilight's sight.
Its symphony is over, Its day has become night.
What a song he once sang in crystal blue brilliance
As the heartbeat source of warmth and light,
To many a planet and moon. A solar system's
Central guidepost, quintessential in its force and might.
In the chilly void of space, to answer
An age old question, the universe does contract.
Yes, when engulfed in grief of such dark matter,
Every point of contact is at risk of collapse.
In the Star Chamber all is quiet,
In a moment of silence to observe
The loss of a fallen fellow fire
Who scarred the sky as he burnt himself out.
In this downward plight
All whom knew him shine brighter
For having been part of his spiraling flight.
