Too Blue for One Gold
The Olympian strives to attain,
the most coveted prize - gold,
while a mother waits in pain,
for three daughters she longs to hold.
Serving in combat for what seemed right,
to foreign lands they did go,
for family and freedom they did fight,
the final outcome they did not know.
A soldier's parents get blue, I'm told,
a star in the window to hang,
this mother had three, one now gold,
as the bell for one daughter has rang.
A twin lost her right arm,
a sister lost one of three,
trying to make sense of the harm,
bowed heads, wet cheeks...they grieve.
Dealing with their loss, not just another,
letting go and letting God is tough,
now for this Gold Star mother,
one gold star is more than enough.
