    Poem Commentary

Sometime after 9/11, I was watching a special report on the aftermath of the tragedy on September 11, 2001. During one of the reports there was a photo of woman on a cell phone. This occurred to me, "what if she is calling someone who is no longer alive?" The answer, "no matter how many times she calls, no one will answer that day." Thus, the title and the poem you read. Nothing more needs to be said...does it?

    No One Answered That Day

    While calling your name,
       ashes and tears fell,
    whispers grew into screams,
      as earth became hell.

    Searching low, now even lower,
      no more Twin's too high,
    facing the future,
not wanting to bid you good-bye.

    Your laughter and infecteous smile,
      stretched many a country mile,
blessing others simply as you were,
to you it did not even occur.

    Still calling out,
      high above the crowd,
    no one answers back,
      no matter how loud.

    Before parting,
      always did we express,
    our deepest love,
      and nothing less,
    so no fear or dispair,
      no not any regret,
    never will we ever,
      lest we not forget.

    In these parting words,
      may I compassionately say,
    how much I miss you,
for no one answered that day.
