The Sounds of Color
In my mind colors sing,
each a different part.
Some are strings, all are kind.
Let’s turn to red to start.
Red is a cello warm
Rich and strong echoed low.
Sounding as wind before storm.
(fireplace embers sing so)
Yellow is a violin!
Bright, quick, it points the way.
Like the sun, hyaline.
(dandelion blossoms play)
Green is a piccolo.
It breathes life, holding all.
It can be tremolo
to hold the soul in thrall.
I hear organ for blue,
Sounding brass, wood, and string.
Chimes, rhythm playing too!
Sky shadows together sing.
Violet, dark as death,
like a double-bass.
Heard like my winter’s breath
sung not by works, but grace.
