Ode to Meadowsweet
Early summer mornings are so sweet
and dew heightens the song of fragrance
with the quiet meadowsweet discrete.
Meadowsweet, one of three plants
beloved and honored by ancient Druids,
now grows at wood’s edge as a transplant.
Unlike its’ relative, the wondrous rose,
it associates with my rampant weeds
without any care and with complete compose.
Ah yes, a rose is truly outstanding
but its’ humble herbal relative
is not so fussy and demanding.
