Tafari Makonnen (1892- ?)
At nineteen he became Ras Tafri,
At thirty-eight “Might of the Trinity”.
In 1936 he was a cipher…
Then , the conquering lion of Judah!
He died, I am told, in a parking lot
But then does any human truly die?
For all I know, he still enjoys his wat.
Who knows the location of Mount Zion?
While his new flower smells like Vicks to me
And the wise gnomes of Zurich claimed his gold,
I salute HIM, while there is still time , you see
For Africa , his vision to unfold.
Author note: I have just read a book by Rydzard Kapuscinski (The Emperor) that has surprised me. The contents ring true to me, but completely turns what I have always believed around.
