Steps on the Stairs
When first you walk, beware the stairs!
Going up is one thing, down another.
Success comes for both after many prayers,
And soon you take them two at a time!
As sure as afternoon follows morning,
there comes a time when you use the handrail;
heeding previous ignored sage warnings…
and worry about your kids who don’t.
In the evening of life there are more cares.
You watch the grandkids to keep them safe
from a tumble down those dangerous stairs.
(you take them with handrail and two steps each!)
When the steps become a mountain too high
to climb, up or down,
it is time for a last weary sigh.
Go to rest, and find peace,
in sleep.
