    Poem Commentary

My contribution to "The Ocean" poetry challenge.

    The Ocean

    How fortunate we are
to be able to experience this world
To leave all that we know
    and enter another realm

    Being able to glide
    through your environment
    drifting effortlessly with a current
    suspended in total comfort
    untethered form gravity

To not just ride a wave,
    but become part of it.
To not just look the moon,
but to watch it glimmer off the surface.
    To feel the pleasure
    of the sun warmed water,
    touching every inch of you.

My whole life I have known the feeling,
of the wind against my skin.
It has never been felt more strongly,
than when I leap from the ocean.

You created the scene and drew me in! I can just hear the cry of triumphant joy as their great bodies burst through the surface waves only to land in huge slapping belly flops! You imagined it all so well! Makes me want to go whale watching!

Artie - I really enjoyed this one - found it to be a serene look into one's being intensely aware of their connection with their senses.

I saw this poem as a representation of massive emotional growth despite struggles from the past. It was inspiring to me.

Hey, you windsurf naked too? Lol!! This was a tantalizing glimpse of a dreamy day on a planet all your own. Some bright fantasy that you materialized here - something I need to write a poem about. Careful, those playful cetaceans love to launch the board! Fluid write!!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
