The Beacon Ignited
I'm at the foot of a mountain of solid stone.
Razor sharp corners and thorns
cover every inch.
Overhead an ominous dark cloud spirals
so thick it blocks the light from above.
The air around is damp, cold, and tastes of decay.
Upon closer examination I see
the cloud is a swarm of demons
standing guard, waiting for me.
I take a step closer,
and a legion of them dart towards me.
Quickly I place my hand
on the mountains surface
and am launched back.
The sound of her song, fills my mind
and awakens my soul from its slumber.
My soul, sensing she is in danger
becomes enraged and lets out a scream
that swells in my chest
and explodes from within me
shattering the silence of the abyss
and shaking the underworld to its core.
The demons now attempting to
surround and smother me
begin to fall one by one
from the shattering scream
until they are all gone.
I realize now that this
is no mountain before me
it is a tomb.
A tomb that encases the one I love.
The walls constructed of pain,
loneliness, and fear
now begin to tremble from the light above.
My soul lets out yet another thundering scream
this time towards the tomb,
and the walls begin to shatter.
Light emerges from the cracks
the ground breaks open
the seven towers surrounding the tomb
crumble and fall, creating a shock wave
that slams me to the ground.
The tomb explodes and shatters
revealing an enormous pit of light.
And then she emerges
floating, angelic, mesmerizing.
The light from her, shines so bright
for a moment I am blinded.
My skin, weakened from these
long years in the abyss burns with pain
from the light she casts
peeling away the scars from my battles
healing the wounds that have caused my suffering.
Leaving me in a state of bliss.
I open my eyes , and look upon her
for the first time since before we were born.
I am touched, overcome, and humbled.
The beacon I seek has been ignited.
