To Have and Not Hold
As I sit and think of what you mean to me
so many doubts fill my head.
I know you still care, I see it in your eyes
and here it in the words you've said.
My heart's like a runner not wanting to stop
until it has reached the goal.
I know in my mind that wherever I go,
you're the one that makes me feel whole.
I miss your eyes, your lips, your hair
and the sparkle in your voice.
Yet I'm left alone here to reminisce
as the situation leaves us no choice.
You're ever in my thoughts; every day and night,
but I am staying on my guard.
For I know that if I lose you again
the blow will be too hard.
I know now I can't say that I love you
for at this point of our life it's not right.
But I see your face when I shut my eyes
and express it it to you each night.
So until the time comes when again I can hold you
I will be content with the memories I have.
Yet, if that never happens, we're never again one;
just know my love will follow me to the grave.
