    did you ever have a friend that you fell madly in love with, but you knew that love was never going to be reciprocated? that is where this poem came from. i was deeply enamored with a woman i worked with in '94 and i knew she didn't feel the same way. i tried all i could to no avail, so i just let it go and watched her move on as i walked a seperate path. but i still wonder if, well, nah.

    Every time...

     "What comes next?", I often ask,
    but never an answer received.
    Yet every time I complete the task
    of letting my heart be deceived.
    It's an endless game of cat and mouse
    between my heart and mind,
    and my eyes sit in their high penthouse
    and watch heartache unwind.
    Cursing names; placing faults;
    losing just the same.
    Seeing curiosity in your eyes, I thought;
    I wonder if it's just a game?
    To you I'm a friend to share your pain
    and empty out your heart.
    To me you are a love restrained;
    in my life you'll play no part.
    Dreamers dream and poets hope,
    and fools wish every day,
    but some of us just learn to cope
    and live our own lonely way.
