Letting Go
When you have someone that holds your heart
And you feel only half when you’re apart,
It makes it harder when you have to let go.
Even when it’s a decision that you already know
Is the best for you both and your lives will go on,
And that person will never be truly gone.
When you love a person and know in your heart
That no matter what life brings they’ll always be part
Of a time full of laughter and sometimes pain,
And maybe someday fate will unite you again.
But if that day doesn’t come you can never forget
About the good that was shared and the love you begat.
When you let someone go they take a piece of your heart
To carry with them always and you then have to start
Looking for a new life and remember what was
A short lifetime filled with love and don’t pause
To dwell on what could have been, for it was not to be.
If you truly love someone you must set them free.
When you have a love like Jennifer, there’s only room in your heart
For the love of your children and a dog that’s so smart.
Yet, there has to be room to step back and let go
As she takes a path towards a new life, one that I know
She needs and deserves, and yes I will take time to weep,
But I will smile when I see her face in my sleep.
