Death Sentence

Poem Commentary

This was a poem i co-wrote with a dear friend of mine over a decade ago after her mother was brutally murdered by my friend's step-father. he was sentenced to life without parole and still sits languishing in prison somewhere, all too good for him. he deserved the maximum penalty, but she has gotten past her anger and has resolved that God will deal with his ass eventually.

Death Sentence

The time just keeps slowly ticking away,
closer and closer to that October day.
Will Vengeance ring true, will Justice prevail,
or will the hammer just brush the head of the nail?
When someone's life ends it's always sad,
but it's worse when taken by someone called 'dad'.

You've taken mom's life, not a lie but a fact,
and all you've ever said and done was  an act.
Her suffering was pointless, what was the price?
Whatever it was you made her pay with her life.
I wsh it was a dream that would just go away,
but the hate, pain, and anger grow stronger each day.

Time still keeps ticking as your life carries on.
You liar, you murderer, you bastard, you son
of a bitch! I'm filled with total anger, total hate,
but You pulled the trigger and sealed you own fate.
Death be not proud, for you shall die, too,
but when you go be sure this mother fucker's with you!

I wrote this many years ago when a friend lost her mother to an idiot with a gun. still holds a lot of meaning for me, thx, Cheronld...

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
