    Poem Commentary

    Another one to think about...

    The Long Lost Word

    In kindergarten it was
one of the first words we were taught
    but somewhere along the way
    we somehow forgot
    It's always been available
and so many will refuse it
    everyday, so few will say
and even choose to use it
    Once a year, a holiday,
the reminding of the little bird
But after that, there's not much chat
and we hardly use the word
I search and looked and questioned
    Is there any other way?
    A word that's been forgotten
that could so easily make my day
I opened up a closed room
and stood right by the door
    and someone finally said it
while everyone else just simply ignored
for she actually did say it
for this there is no prank
I had finally heard the long lost word
    a women giving thanks.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
