    God's Spirit In Me

What's this new presence that I am Feeling?
It's not an emotion, nor is it one of the Human Senses.
I couldn't touch, smell, feel, taste, or hear it before.
But now I hear it pounding on my soul's door.

It smells of a better tomorrow.
It taste of God's extended grace.
And I hear it will guide me down the Narrow and Righteous Road
    to a much better Place.

I can truly feel it, and it feels like God Himself has jumped deep down in my soul, took His Righteous Hand, grabbed His Righteous Spoon, and began stirring up His Righteous Ingredients for making a new Me.
This spirit is a fresh anointing,
and I can't wait to see what it shall Be.

His Righteous Ingredients took an immediate effect on me.
Matter of Fact, just last week an old friend dropped by to offer me one of those left finger cigarettes. You know what I am talking about:
One of those cigarettes that takes just as long to roll, as it takes for the effects to wear off my precious temple, once I inhale the smoke of the Devil's Necter.

Well, I guess God's Spirit In Me could smell that smoke through the skin of Satan's Messenger, because as Willie Lee was opening His
Mouth to present the opportunity for me to smoke a blunt with him,
God's spirit seeped through my lips and put out those flames with some of that old Holy Water.

I was just as surprised as old Willie Lee was.
    All of a sudden I Began reciting scripture to Him in third person;
you know something to the effect of "Your Body is a Holy Temple, and God can't dwell in an unclean place...
And we Both Became convicted, repented, and turned from our Evil Ways.

We Didn't get to smoke that day, We got something much better. We got God's Spirit In Us!

On another occasion, I was on the Mountain Top and Satan came to Tempt Me.
I thought I was on the Mountain all by my lonely self, but the beautiful Ebony Queen had her sights on me.
She had perched herself on a large limb of a Mahogany Tree.
As I walked by I could smell her perfume.
As I walked by there Satan loomed.
As I walked by I knew I would have to bring to remembrance strong scripture to fend off her Desire.

I was weak, and I had not been with a woman in over 2 months.
I wasn't the marrying type, and since my conversion I became more challenged by the flesh, and even more challenged to stay the course.
Ms. Ebony Queen could smell the freshness on me, and therefore jumped down from where she was sitting to implore her plot of workings:

She removed her covering and presented her offer of temptation.
She said "If thou are a changed Man,
Surely it wouldn't bother your if I got more comfortable and lay down next to you just as I am."

I looked at her beautiful body, and just as she placed her hand near my ready body,
God's spirit in me gently pushed her away and provided a way of escape for me.

Then once again, unfamiliar words began spewing from my mouth.
I told her that it is written over in First Thessalonians 4 and 3. " For This is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication. "
Then she smiled, complimented me for being strong and for knowing the WORD,
begged my pardon, and took off running down the wrong side of the mountain back to her permanent dwelling place.

No, I didn't get to lay with the Ms. Ebony Queen that day, I got something much better. I got God's Spirit In Me!
I Thank God Daily for baptizing me with his spirit.
As I walk through this dark world, it makes for light to comfort my soul. The spirit is what makes the physical man whole,
and is what allows a small portion of God to be placed in Man.
Without God's Spirit in us, we are simply builders without a plan.

I believe this is the best religious poem I've ever read focusing on God's Spirit. If one has a great faith in him surely God's Spirit will dwell in him and never let go. All sort of temptations will surely bounced off from his earthly essence. Thanks for sharing, Orson.

Orson, I loved this! It's amazing how God's Spirit gives us the strength we need in all kinds of temptations. Must pass this on... Blessings...

I love this poem... as a woman it allows he to see what a man has to deal with to fight temptation. Very inspiring! I will share this with my older son. God has truly used you. Keep on writing, because I know I'm listening. To God be the Glory for inspiring you....

Beautifully inspired poetry. They make me give my testimony in church on how I started writing poetry. I use to hate poetry but as my daughter likes to quote. "When the Lord gets ready you've got to move. I see your gift for this and you're sharing that gift with all of us. Please don't stop writing.

Thank you for reading this poem. I think you should indeed listen to your daughter's reminder of how and When God is ready to use you. Continue to yield to the lord's voice

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
