    Poem Commentary

    A remembrance of long, long ago.

    The Diner


    "What'll you have?" She asked.
    I looked up to see a beautiful young girl, about my age, nineteen, in a clean starched uniform.

    "Just coffee." I replied.

    I just sat down at the counter and was looking at the menu when I heard her heavy breathing and then noticed her cleft palate. It was repaired long ago, or I would have noticed right away. I only noticed her labored breathing, her soft calming voice and her long raven-black hair that cascaded down her slender back. She was lovely.

    Some imperfections do not destroy beauty.
    I didn't want to leave her.

    "I think I would also like some apple pie."

    We never see beauty - if it isn't within us, it does not exist. Your beauty is within you. Thank you for recognizing it.

    I liked this little story and wanted it to go on because it was the beginning of a love story maybe. It is so nice to listen to a story teller that has such rare attributes plus a big slice of intelligence. (P.S. Sorry ran out of apple pie)
