DOOMED
I saw three ships come sailin' in
a sailin' from the sea.
I saw six boats a lower'd down
a headin' right fer me.
I saw six men a standin' proud
a callin' man words to the crowd.
I saw one score men bend a knee,
All this I did see.
I saw a half day spent in toil
right there on the shore.
I saw four chests a lower'd down.
an' then I saw two more.
I saw the shore all smooth agin'.
I saw the men a drinkin' gin.
I saw all hands then bend an oar,
saw this an' nothin' more.
When the ship was but a speck
I scamper'd down to see.
There they were all boxes six
awaitin' there fer me.
With bare hands I claw'd the sand
an' made a great hole in that land.
I fill'd my pockets to the knee
an' set out fer the sea.
I tell ya' boys I drew a map
so's I could hurry back.
I bought a ship an' sighed a crew
an' bought me many a sack.
But a storm came up 'n blew aroun'
my ship, my map, an' I went down.
Oh, m'boy Alas, Alack,
I'll nev'r get me treasure back!
The ships all come, an' they all go,
An' on each deck am I.
I'm lookin' fer that shore o' gold
b'neath the blazin' sky.
I'll look through all eternity
until I find that shore I see.
Now ya know the story, sez I.
of a man wot's doomed ta nev'r die.
