IF YOU KNEW...

Poem Commentary

KNOWING this- would you conduct change?

IF YOU KNEW...

That when you cheated - you would be cheated on
That when you hated - that hate would go on and on
That what you took - would be taken from you
That when you lied - you would be lied to
That when you gave shelter to one in need
You fostered in yourself generosity - not greed
That each word - each thought - each act
In the measure you gave - would all come back

It's not the golden rule - that gives you awe
What you do returns to you - that's the Golden Law
Just realize there's no right - no wrong
Life returns - like the echo of a song
If the words - don't sound like what you know
Remember - it's what you said those years ago
You return - so you can reap what you have sown
For what you do today - tomorrow you will own

Thanks for the new perspective cause sometimes we tend to forget that our actions effect others.

To me it is what Religion was supposed to have taught us. And with it no religion is necessary. Thanks for the visit, g. TY.

If this law of reciprocity holds true (and there is objective truth), then there must be a right way to apply it, and a wrong way to deny it. I have found many shades of grey to still fall into the contrast of black and white (though unpopular, these days). A very wise write to consider and meditate upon! thanks for sharing the finer things in life! Applause building!

What you praise in others is already within you, or you would not see it and recognize it. Thanks for the visit M.

A stern and pointed lesson on the life we choose to live. Excellent.

Religions tell us to just 'believe,' and we will be rewarded and punished accordingly - But we are not punished by what we do to others - We are allowed to wear the cloths we wove for them. Thank you, Charles.

Thank you for those words to live by - you put into words what we should all know.

Yes - we should know that it is how we live that determines our todays and tomorrows. Religion wants us to BELIEVE! Thanks for your first[?] visit.

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
