Bookends
Stacked side by side
Crooked lines
One farther in
One closer out
Paper, cloth and binding glued
They stand jumbled , a bit confused
Tall ones mixed with
Stouts and shorts
Pages hidden to the back
Alphabetized yeah forget that
One on the floor
5 halfway off
I wish we’d get rid of
That damned cat !
I’d read a book if I could find one
One that peeks my interest
One that isn’t 8 books down
Sideways underneath a dictionary
It’s simple it may seem
To put them straight and neat
Bookends would make them stay
Yes bookends would be nice
Too bad I have none
Hmmm…bookends.
