Remembering Elvis
I was born listening to Elvis.
Jailhouse Rock hit number one
The day that I arrived.
His music has been in my heart,
And his music has been in my soul
For as long as I've been alive.
I was raised listening to Elvis.
The first song I ever remember
Was Blue Suede Shoes.
My first words may have been daddy,
But You Aint Nothing But A Hound Dog
Was a phrase I couldn't lose.
I grew up listening to Elvis.
John, Paul, George and Ringo,
The Fab Four were also in my blood.
But Elvis music is in my DNA.
The Beatles were jesters in the king's court.
The king of rock and roll was there to play.
I remember the day Elvis died.
Hearing the news, I sat straight up in bed.
I thought back to all his old movies.
I watched every tribute, liistened to every song.
That time in my life was like a dream.
I just couldn't believe that he was really dead.
After all these years, time has a way to
Put all things in perspective.
Today is a time to celebrate, and not to cry.
Elvis may be gone from this world.
But his God given voice is still alive,
And his music will never die.
