    A PICTURE OF YOU

TODAY I FOUND A PICTURE OF YOU
IN THE ATTIC OF MY MIND.
THE VISION OF YOUR LOVELY FACE
FROZEN THROUGH THE PAGES OF TIME.

YOU WERE THE LOVE OF MY YOUTH
A LOVE DESTINED TO NEVER BE.
    THE INNOCENCE OF UNREQUITED LOVE,
LIKE A SWEET AROMA UNDER A JUNIPER TREE.

IF I HAD IT TO DO ALL OVER AGAIN,
IT'S YOUR HEART THAT I WOULD CHOOSE.
BUT IN THIS GAME OF ROMANCE AND LOVE,
ONE HEART MUST WIN, ONE HEART MUST LOSE.

AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, I STILL SEE YOUR SMILE.
A BY PRODUCT OF MY HEARTBEAT'S RESIDUE.
WARM MEMORIES SIMMERING IN MY MIND,
THE FACES AND TRACES OF YOU.

WORDS CANNOT TELL THE TRUE STORY.
A CLASSIC NOVEL LOST BEFORE IT COULD BEGIN.
MISSING PAGES IN THE HISTORY OF MY LIFE
A LIFETIME LOVE GONE WITH THE WIND.

this was really sweet, i think it has everything it needs to be complete a job well done. it certainly gave my head a beautiful image of an attic in a house where you find this picture, you made me picture this.

As I read this poem I couldn't help but hope that I may have had that effect on someone in my youth, I know I look back and sometimes feel the same longing...and who knows what might have been... well written, thanks, mlea

Well said, I appreciate your love of words and poetry in general. This girl is from 34 years ago and I still think of her.

glad you have such good feelings about a memeory

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
