    How Blessed I Am

     How Blessed I Am

    I was afraid today. Afraid of what the day would bring.
    Then I saw a child who was battling cancer.
    I saw her fighting bravely. I heard her sing.
    I began to question my courage, but I had no answer.

    I was lonely today. Afraid of being alone.
    Then I saw an old man all by himself.
    He was reading quietly in a chair in a nursing home.
    I began to realize that quietness can bring untold wealth.

    I was tired today, no drive to continue my work.
    Then I saw a working mother walking toward town.
    Mother of five, no husband, her duties she cannot shirk.
    I began to motivate myself, feeling blessings all around.

    I was sad today, feeling unlucky and depressed.
    Then I saw a young man with only one arm.
    A veteran who defended his country- the best of the best. 
    I began to thank all those who keep me from harm.
