On The Outside Looking In
When you're outside Grandma's house
At her window looking in,
You'd be surprised at what you see
And, the stories you could spin.
All the cousins came to visit Grandma
Mysteriously, stopping one Sunday on a whim,
But, anyone could see all the cars in the drive,
And watched them leave for home in a tailspin.
Grandma had asked all her grandkids
For a group photo before they said goodbye.
Uncle Jim was taking the picture, he asked
If everyone would give it a solid try.
All the cousins were standing,
Shoulder to shoulder for the photo shoot.
Short ones stood in the front smiling,
While the tall ones were in the rears,
Grinning with bemusement,
Secretly making "bunny ears".
All too soon, the children are much older,
And many years have passed.
Someone finds a picture in a box
And finds memories from the past.
That year in the Christmas mailing,
Comes a package from Uncle Jim.
Inside, a photograph with all cousins posing,
And at Grandma's windows, are all the parents,
Noses smashed against the glass
On the Outside Looking In.
