Into the Azure Blue Sky (original)
Early one December mornA young pilot readied to fly.
Finishing his routine checklist
He raised his eyes to the sky.
The sun was hidden by grey thickness
A fog-muted ball of flame.
A blanket of clouds was all he could see.
Everything everywhere looked the same.
As an athelete trusts his coach
The young pilot trusted his plane.
If each instrument did its job
Then, he could do the same.
As many a boy does in his youth
All he had ever wanted to do was fly.
Up, up and away
Into the Azure Blue Sky.
But, suddenly , after take-off
The instument panel went dead.
"He did all the right things,"
The man in the tower had said.
What was up was down, inverted.
What was down was up.
A meeting of earth and machine,
The problem came to a fiery stop.
In a instant, all was gone
Smoke and fire had taken it's toll.
The young pilot had simply vanished
Heaven had taken his soul.
To this day he is remembered fondly
That with all his years of learning
He accomplished his goal to fly.
Fulfilling his youthful yearning.
For all he had ever wanted
As many a young man does, was to fly.
UP, up and away from earthly tethers,
Into the Azure Blue Sky.
