reassurance.
No one's ever told me if I'm pretty without makeup on.
No one's ever told me if I'm pretty without nothing on.
I've tried to catch her in the morning.
But she hides her eyes in a book.
Breath in midday air.
Make it through the day.
Breath in evening fog -
& pretend it's all okay.
No one's ever told me if I talk too much -
& no one's ever told me to just speak up.
So I'll stay.
And I'll say what I wanted to -
quietly; hushed, and from way back here...
