Poem Commentary

Second poem written for my Brother who passed away in 2002. An after to my poem Passing Bye.

Ode to the Holidays

Almost the forth of July.
Years mean nothing to me
It feels like yesterday,
Everyday to this day.
I miss you laugh,
Your smile and your sarcasm.

Most of all I miss
You.
My Brother where out thou
I will hold you in my heart,
The deepest part,
And know you are with me
With every breath that I take.

Oh and by the way,
Stop burning out my lights
And beeping my smoke alarms.
I know your communicating with me,
But it can get rather annoying.

What are big sisters for?
Other then to remind you of
Your shortcomings,
And the love that runs
So deep.

I miss you.

I loved this write, very deep and sentimental as well. I completely feel you here. For me it is Christmas, I lost my father a couple years back right before the holidays, and now each year it seems a dark cloud hovers over me during that time. But as the years pass, I too began to notice the chatter. In the shorting out of the Christmas lights, and the reflections in the balls on the tree. He is reaching out, telling me to let the dark cloud lift, for it is I who is drawing it to my presence. It gets easier each year, but still there remains darkness. I enjoyed this write a lot. Excellant. ~Spence

Thanks Spence. I haven't had a 4th of July celebration since. the popping of fireworks still gets under my skin, so I just stay home with the tv on mute. there still pretty. It's funny cause my smoke alarms in my house will chirp from time to time and I just say I know your here and I'm okay, and then they stop.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
