To My Children
As I sit here on my own,
I think of you, my dears,
Imagining what you'd look like,
How you'd change over the years.
When I think of you it blinds me,
Knowing you might not live.
With so much love inside me,
But nothing else to give.
I know your names, your coloured eyes,
The things no one else can know.
I imagine rocking you to sleep,
I imagine watching you grow.
I picture your faces in my dreams,
Feeling my love for you grow.
Sometimes I feel my heart might burst,
Each heartbeat painfully slow.
As I writhe in pain, you're on my mind,
I picture you as you play.
And everyday I miss you more,
Each day you drift further away.
To have you here is all I want,
To share my life with you.
But I know that I may never meet you,
So on this page forever: I love you.
