Broken
My broken, shattered heart lies in ruins
Because of the trouble and pain you created.
You reduced me to a wreck,
A shadow of my former self.
All of the courage and strength I once possessed
Are now gone, lying at your feet.
I gave you my heart gladly,
I thought you desired and deserved it.
But you returned it in shreds and tatters,
Your punishment for a crime I didn't understand:
The crime of love.
You left me utterly broken and ashamed.
I wish I'd died before we met,
At least then I would be whole.
Me ripped me apart, with no remorse -
Your laugh was all I heard.
If I had died I would be at peace,
With no more tears to shed.
But you changed me, my dear,
As you broke me down.
You made me weak, a shell
Of my former strong, whole self.
And for what you did to me, my love,
I'll cry a river each night.
