Festival Time - An Independence Celebration
In this short lifetime I've had many great experiences,
but there are few that's special,
While a boy's scout seeing great Jamaicans being honored
by the Governor General,
Such were amazing memorable days of my youth in Kingston,
A time I was mentored by my teachers, people of wisdom.
Remembering the times when the great performers and artist, men of vision
Wrote some of the greatest festival songs for independence celebration
They saw a new Jamaica emerging from independence and wrote,
Some of the most inspiring lyrics that combines with musical notes.
Celebrating independence in August was a most joyous time,
Nothing could beat that, for there were low levels of crime,
This was a time we were unified as citizens of Jamaica,
Universial influence and popularity in America, Europe and Asia.
Political and sectarian controversy have divided some,
Strive not to be unhappy with each other in times to come.
Strive for peace in unison, rise up ye noble Jamaican nation,
Unite with each other in joy and celebration,
For Jamaica is a great land so be in good relations,
Enjoy the festivities with each other and lets replace strife,
Encouraging care for everyone's lives,
Fostering continually our kindred spirits,
A nation under God, let our children inherit.
We've come so very far as a people,
Our aims, our ambitions, as the highest steeple,
Continue the task of nation building,
Instill hope, decency and values in our children,
Jamaica I believe in you,
My sweet country with mountains blue.
With your glorious sceneries and lovely beaches,
Lets fight to maintain our independence, patience teaches,
So lets persevere to ambitious height that reaches,
To the hills of self-sufficiency in trade,
Increasing productivity and less reliance on financial aid.
We are the jewel of the Caribbean,
lovely island, the most beautiful I've seen,
Let's throw off the yoke of debt and dependency,
Not always borrowing with much diplomacy,
Staving off any future insolvency,
Jamaica my land of hope.
So let's celebrate more festival times as years before,
The streets crowded with people smiling more and more,
With our rich musical heritage of performers and talented artists,
Mathematicians, athletes, rich commerce and scientists,
Jamaica my land of hope.
