A TRUE SOLDIER
Morning after morning I saw him jogging by.Picking up the pace each time, with each struggling breath he tried,
To gain momentum to gain speed to reach the very last tree,
He laughed with much accomplishment as he sped by me.
One could not help but notice this old soldier full of glee,
He's accomplished more today on both prosthetic knees,
Obtaining horrendous injuries through the horrors of war,
Has made this soldier a greater man, who is now a star.
Old soldier you've inspired me you've won the race each day,
As you go and teach the youth there is a nobler way,
You've lived a life of honor, and served your country now,
Sacrificing many days and honoring your vow.
Protecting the shores, air land and sea,
Scarring your life, loss of feet below the knees,
Doing your duties, serving with pride,
Your country stood up proudly with you on their side.
Looking at your hand torn and bruised in the strife of war,
Sometimes in low spirits, hope and confidence hangs ajar,
Praising all the veterans for liberty and security,
Give them help and happiness, please do not leave them be.
Liberty freedom and democracy, are sometimes preserved through wars,
Taking all our veterans home and honoring our stars,
Appreciation crowned with hope, a future with less strife,
Retired in tranquility and a happy fulfilling life.
