TO BECOME A MAN
The memory of a man that keeps the memory of a man.
A man that raised him as but beat him with his hand.
As time went on the fear and hate started to brew.
The man felt like he had all the power even as the boy grew.
The boy kept a code of silence in fear the man would kill.
So the man kept abusing his power not caring how the boy would feel.
Soon the little boy grew al little older and into a strong young man.
Very respectful and did his best in all he can.
One day he meet someone that he considered as a true human friend.
He cried and told her everything he had been through, all the way to the end.
She told him to keep on praying and always remain strong.
But the anger was building up and he would not hold out too long.
The young man soon escaped and ran away from it all.
Thinking that when he ran, it was all finished. It merely was his downfall.
He went from respectful and good to violent and cold and followed in to a gang.
Living the life of fights, drugs and guns just to release his pain.
But his way of life caught up with him and his past, still, did not disappear.
He tried to do things right by joining the Army and stayed away for about a year.
He made many accomplishments and graduated at the top of his class.
He felt he had earned the respect he deserved, especially from that man, at last.
The young man came home one day so his mother could be proud to see.
His mother smiled and he looked at the man and said, “You will never touch me!”
The man walked away with a smirk on his face and never said a word.
Two years had past before they spoke since the last and the next incident would occur.
The young man came home to visit from school during one brief semester stay.
The man that he called his stepfather did not seem happy that day.
The man had a fear that his power would weaken and the child he remembered would grow.
So he wanted to make sure his control was still there all with one blow.
To his surprise, his physical power was not anything that could go to far.
The young man put on his shoes and warned his brothers and sisters and went out to his car.
He came back in the house with a gun that was loaded that he had kept from his dark past.
The young man cocked the gun and a smile he could claim as he looked at the man, at last.
He saw the fear in the mans eyes as he pulled it into the man’s sight.
The young man tipped the trigger but then a thought came across his mind to fight.
All the things I have accomplished in my whole life all the way up to now.
Is it worth to kill this childish man and end it all here? Can somebody tell me how?
Or should I ask myself, “Why?” and put it away to see who’s a real man?
I put down the gun and I said to myself “I know that I, really, am.”
The fear in his eyes was my payback for all the wrong he had done.
I walked out the house with that smile on my face because I knew I had won.
A man that raised him as but beat him with his hand.
