The Lake Walk
One of the greatest pleasures in life, of lovely things to do,Is to walk around a wooded lake, and to just take in the view.
The shaded path, so filled with life, from the water to the trees;
Each time we go, miraculous change, of what our vision sees.
We always carry peanuts that are especially prepared
For the bluetits and small finches, with whom are gladly shared.
They hide amongst the bushes and shrubs, who, unseen by all,
Show themselves when hearing; short whistles and our call.
They are so fast and flighty and around the shores abound,
Feeding on our foodstuffs, and the morsels, on the ground.
But high up in the shaded trees are larger fowl and bird;
Resting in the branches, calling out in special word
Both signalling and warning, just in case no one had heard.
But, who would harm one feather, on a precious little bird?
Several swans are swimming in a cove, as we walk past
Their necks erect, while gazing, but we know, it will not last.
The mallard ducks come into view, their offspring at their rear
Trailing in a row behind, all eight have naught to fear.
They go to fetch a crust of bread that I so clumsily toss;
The 'vee' trails in the water made, as they, all cut across.
Each corner that, as we approach, brings on a different view;
Nature at its' Very best, did I mention Flowers too?
Fragrances, all fill the air, just like the sweet perfume.
Of the pretty blossoms that are spread, in their fullest bloom.
A squirrel might chatter loudly as it hides around a limb
Preferring a nut, rather than bread; not wanting to take a swim.
A stork stands proudly stalking, in the shallows, near a bog
Watching for the movement, of a minnow, or baby frog.
We always walk so slowly, each time we take this stroll,
To watch all the activity; some things we might not know!
My camera is always with me, and around my neck it's found
At the mention of a lake walk, my feet jump to the ground!
