Ghost of The Ethel Pope Theater
Don't know about youNot everyone does
But I believe in ghosts
It wasn't always so
In fact I stayed that way
All the way to high school
Then I believed and still do
It all started in 1922
Forty years before I was born
A high school senior
From a nearby town
And lived twenty miles away
She was the star of the senior play
When it came to curtain time
She was late, but made it in time
She performed the play beautifully
But remained aloof and distant
Something unusual for her
Then shorly after it ended
She went down to the dressing rooms
But when the curtain call came, she didn't
So they ran to get her but she had
Disappeared without a trace
The next day the horrible truth was revealed
Her car had swerved off the mountain road
As she was heading to the theater
She died instantly, but she wasn't finished
For she came to town to fulfill her obligation
Our paths crossed some 55 years later
When I was beginning my acting passion
My most memorable experience came
My senior year in 1980-1981
We were doing " Our Town "
She made her presence known
In many different mischeviously playful ways
My turn came one November night
I was the last person out and had closed up
All the lights were off and the alarm set
I went out the back door and walked up front
Then while I was waiting for my ride
I peered in the front windows and
I saw her dance across the stage, lights on
I quickly ran back around and nothing
All was quiet and dark and locked up tight
Then I went back to the front to wait and
My hair was standing up straight on end
Cause although it was dark and no one in sight
I felt as though someone were watching me
From the very window I peered in through
