    The Greatest Pain

    The greatest pain

    Is the shadow of death

    Seeing one loved

    Struggling for each breath

    Knowing before you

    A vestige not the whole

    Your friend's leaving

    Frail body, broken soul

    There at the end

    A goodbye to impart

    Not forgotten

    Forever in our heart

    Hard being left

    As the one who survives

    Feeling the loss

    Getting on with our lives

    No more pain felt

    Suffering's now foregone

    Death's a relief

Do not fret when they’re gone

    Remember them

For the times that you shared

    Smiles that you had

    Believe they know you cared

    Live, love and laugh

    Make new mem'ries like mad

    Take heart each day

    From treasured moments had

    It's not the end

    Resurrection's ahead

    When friends rejoice

    In death's demise instead

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
