Poem Commentary

I was feeling pushed around at work and really under appreciated for my hard efforts by a co-worker and needed to get it off my chest.

Perseverance

Perseverance

You won’t shut me down or take my crown

My glory abounds and astounds

 regardless of your daunting drowns

You can spit on me, but I will deflect it

You can chide away my rewards, I will reject it

Deep in the bottom of my soul, it’s known

the horrors you heap cannot stand alone

To the fiery force that in me dwells

and screaming rage that from me swells

I will not be shut down by you

I will find my freedom, and reap what’s due

Soon after you will resonate

that you alone could never change my fate
-M. Jacobs

A Great Rant DMJ!!! I think we all have dealt with a person like this at one time or another. What I believe.. is that they lash out at others because they feel threatened and it helps them to not feel so insecure. I don't let them walk all over me - but I do try to understand the reason behind their attitude. This however by no means excuses their actions. But it does help me to deal with the issue.

Sometimes you just need to shout it from the rafters. I have someone at work too that just drives me to drink but I refuse to let her get the better of me. This too shall pass! LOL

Amen to that. We are all surrounded with situations. WE can't let it get the better of us. Survival!

You go girl. Grrrrrr.... Sounds like you have spunk! As Mr. Grant used to say on the Mary Tyler Moore, "I hate spunk!" (lol). Only kidding. I like it when someone stands up for themselves. I hope you don't keep this kind of stuff all bottled up inside. That ain't healthy. I suppose that writing it down in a poem is a way to vent. Sometimes, though, you just go to let it out. I like your style lady friend. You certainly don't seem to pull any punches. And you seem to do it in such a lady-like and Christian way. A very good example for us all. Another great job Miss Jacobs. Way to go.... Kevin

Although it may sound crazy, you may secretly want to thank this person for pushing you to a place where you could create so powerfully! They cannot take your crown, indeed!!! Great write :)

You're so right! I have been faced with foes before and it made me excel.

The first thing that jumps into my head Miriam, is a bid to discover why anyone would want to dump on such a lovely lady as this. Well you know what Conan the Barbarian used to say, (You DON'T?) Well he used to say whatever doesn't kill you will make you stronger. The philosophical tack will bring perspective back I'm sure. My guess is that she's jealous that you care to get to the bottom of things and you might take over her job. No? Well maybe ... Hey! sorry. We're supposed to comment on your poem here. Ok! It's methodical all the way through. It flows wonderfully from one point to the next. I'm a true believer in a strong finish. They don't come easily but reward you many times over if you find one. Where I think you need to look to change is the word resonate. It's commonly used as a descriptor for a voice, either audible or not. It helps to amplify a cause. It's a powerful word but it appears awkward when used to describe a living being. The skies or the mountains can resonate with the sound of hope or promise of a progressive future but if you apply the poetically ethereal to a person who by her own volition can paint horrible pictures with her mouth, it's like putting a lovely diamond ring in the sows snout. ... so to speak. Maybe I'm jaded a little but I don't see her as the kind of person who would give you a happy Hollywood ending. You need to maybe focus on wrapping it up with mentioning the potential for good you might derive out of discovering how destructive forces are teachers whether they want to be or not. Something like that.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
