One Percent
ONE PERCENT
Every day you get up, you don’t know what you’ll find
Everything is great, but then you find yourself in a bind
Then you wonder why, why did this happen to me?
Where did I go wrong, but why, how can this be?
I met my goals, no problem there; I got great reviews
Then one day, just like that, you get bad news
I cannot afford you, I don’t love you, you must go
But why, what went wrong? You just don’t know
Let it out, scream, yell, punch if you must
Let the tears flow, feelings of broken trust
The pain, the ache, the questions, could there be more?
What will I do, where will I go, why did I work so hard for?
Yesterday was gold, today it is only coal
Why me, I gave, never took, I never stole
I was loyal; loved you; met my annual goal
I was faithful, I was always in control
They say things happen for reason
But right now you can’t see what it is
Pay attention, if you don’t you could miss
The reason for this change of season
Think of the 5 year old; his mother on death row
Think of a fireman at the church, but the bride doesn’t show
The fireman groom will never live to see tomorrow
It wasn’t a fire; he killed himself because of the sorrow
Just remember that things can always be much worse
Think of the racist doctor, and the patients he ignores
Just because he looks middle eastern, September eleven
The young kid was diagnosed with aids, he’s only seven
Think of the twenty-five year old bride that just got raped
Think of what she will have to tell her new soul mate
Months later when she finds out she will be a mother
Having to tell her husband that he’s not the father
Think of the ten year old kid that just bought a gun
Too late now, the mother just lost her 10 year old son
Think of the guy that had both his arms amputated
A drunk driver did it, what's worst, he doesn’t even regret it
Then think of the teenager that finds out she has cancer
Not only that, but she also just lost a leg, damn good dancer
A kid just lost one eye, he only had one, so now he’s blind
He got stabbed just because his race, yet he is still kind
Think of the asshole that continuously beats his wife
Think of tsunami, guess what, it just took a mother's life
That same mother that had both his kids sent to Iraq
And her daughter; her husband was killed because he was black
Face it, either like it or not, you are one of the few
The one percenter, the minority, this is nothing new
The one that can stand the constant waves of the tide
During rough times, the one everyone wants by their side
The one that feels pain and sorrow, but it is not in vain
The one that lies in bed, the one that cries and worries
The one that is not afraid, that will share his or her stories
The phoenix that will fly high, proud, smile once again
Some people get it and some people don’t
Some day you will get it, but maybe you won’t
Your burning passion is what keeps you alive
That same passion, it is your will to survive
Ninety nine percent of them will never understand
You set your goals and you meet them, that is your stand
You have made it over and over - It has worked before,
Hang tough, if you try, you will make it once more
Cry it out, let it all go, and release those tears
Cleanse yourself, deep breaths, no more fears
It is just a ride, you go up and you go down
It is just a color, someone got black, you got brown
Cards get dealt; you don’t know what you will get
One thing you know however, goals don’t go unmet
You will prevail, you will stand up, you will smile, you will walk
You will be back, just like Arnold, except without the funny talk
Don’t look at what it is you don’t have
Think of what you do best, and then laugh
You would not be give something you can’t bare
You would just be told to hang in there
So stop already, wipe the tears, don’t pout
You are a one percenter and it will all work out
Life is like a box of chocolates, a quote by Forest Gump
So pick another, and throw the nasty one in the dump
Suddenly you realize you don’t have it so bad
You realize you should be happy, and not sad
You are a one percenter, yes, you will fight
You will prevail, you will win, you will be alright
Every day you get up, you don’t know what you’ll find
Everything is great, but then you find yourself in a bind
Then you wonder why, why did this happen to me?
Where did I go wrong, but why, how can this be?
