    Life's Footrace

We all know that life is a foot race,
we all start in the back,
    and spend our whole lives,
trying to get ahead of the pack.
    you take two steps forward,
and they push you back three,
    now your one step behind,
from what you really should be.
    Underestimating your own greatness,
while other's are believing in you,
    you get your confidence back,
and find the strength to continue.
    All the devotion and ambition,
that we see in your face,
as you reach for your goal,
    to finish in first place.
    Even if you win,
    by the shortest of gap,
    for all your fans,
    you'll run a victory lap.
As you step up onto the pedestal,
always knowing that you could do it,
    showing all the critics,
that you did have the wit.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
