    Inherited Gene

    Inherited Gene

    I Have seen the nature

    Of the look

    That is in your eyes

    How you aren’t aware

    Of your unfortunate demise

    Hiding behind

    The door of untruths

    While it waits, hanging

    at it’s hinges

    Your life is in peril

    Perhaps it’s time

    To burn those bridges

    For I have seen this

    All before

    The addiction lies in waiting

    Ready to overtake your soul

    Leaving you in a heap

As it tosses you to the floor

    The chances you took

    The road that you take

    Leaves behind

    The love you forsake

In an effort to start anew

    You made a lateral move

Perhaps, that was not the right

    Thing to do

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
