Abyss
Surrounded by a sea of cars
in a place I don’t know
Where traffic slows to a crawl
All I can do is take time
to recall
The 4 mile drive
that took me from home
and brought me to a familiar
place I had come to know
The hour at lunch and
the comfort of home
The kiss on the lips
from my love as we both
return to our work
from our humble abode
So far away from this place
am I
I barely can stand it
I ask myself why
Why I allowed myself
to travel so far
To be away from my
new beginnings and my original
fresh start
Everyday, In the place I call “home”
I rest my weary head on a pillow
waiting for the night to pass
wondering when I can leave
and meet my love again at last
For it was his words, his desire
that sent me away
to make some decisions
and come what may
When all I serve
is a penance
it seems
and the daily trials that follow
leave me living in this bad dream.
