Her Garden
Her Garden
You can’t remember
For you were but a boy
I spoke your name in whispers
In an overgrown garden
I so often enjoyed
There were dandelions and wild flowers
Overgrown rose bushes
Stone made into pillars
And an archway made of wire
There were Japanese maple trees
pine needles and dried up leaves
There were dogwood bushes
All protecting and encompassing me
As I sang out a tune
Talked to the birds
Played with the cats
Twirling and skipping
Does it sound absurd?
Not to a little girl
Who frequented a garden
So long ago
Where all of her daydreams and wishes
Would grow
The days and years would pass
In the mind of the girl
The garden always would grow
Into a dream come true
The whispers and messages
Sent into the air
Brought her to the boy
She once knew
He was the one
She lay her heart at rest
For knowing his heart to be true
Separated by circumstances
A once-in-a-lifetime chance
She returned to the garden
Barely recognizable
Though she knew it was her garden
She stood in the Archway
Bringing wishes and whispers
Letting his heart know
It was true
There would be no other love
That would ever do
The love that grew
In her garden
