In Captivity
In Captivity
In days of joy and laughter
I was often told
Of a happily ever after
Where love did soothe the soul
In days of youthful innocence
In fidelity I did believe
As my love I did dispense
To one who caused me to grieve
In days of torture and pain
I slowly made my way
To the loneliness that remains
Souvenirs of a yesterday
A yesterday fraught with anxiety
Where words of anger and rage
Fought to hide the misery
Found on heartbreak’s page
In nights of fear and loneliness
I longed for sweet, sweet sleep
But the grip of heartache’s stress
Kept me in it’s keep
To escape heartbreak’s chains
I struggled to break free
But my struggle was in vain
And I remain in captivity
