The Christmas Watch
I remember Christmas Eve
Many years gone by,
how the family went to church
for a service by candlelight
And when the service was over,
Daddy sat us ‘round the tree
and read to us the story
of the Christ’s Nativity.
Then Daddy’d say a simple prayer
as tears streamed down his face,
that his family would embrace
the message of God’s grace;
And after singing Christmas Carols
Daddy sent us off to bed
with excited hearts and bodies
‘cause we knew what laid ahead….
And though the visit of Saint Nicholas
Our imaginary friend,
Had stirred up our excitement
He was only there to lend
To the message of the Savior
Of his emanate return
From this imaginary Santa
There’s a lesson to be learned.
Tucked up in our beds,
We lay awake till early light
Thinking of the visit of St. Nicolas that night
And deep within out thoughts
on those exciting Christmas morns
Was a story Daddy told us
of the night when Christ was born.
And though the visit of Saint Nicholas
Our imaginary friend,
Had stirred up our excitement
He was only there to lend
To the message of the Savior
Of his emanate return
From this imaginary Santa
There’s a lesson to be learned.
For He said,
“Watch for me dear children
For the time is drawing near,
when you’ll look up to the heavens
To see the Son of God appear
See I have told you now
Ahead of time
My words will never fade away
No one knows the hour,
And no one knows the day.”……..
And though the visit of Saint Nicholas
Our imaginary friend,
Had stirred up our excitement
He was only there to lend
To the message of the Savior
Of his emanate return
From this imaginary Santa
There’s a lesson to be learned.
